CHEM C3000 is the ultimate chemistry set. Specifically designed to dramatically and vividly show the classroom a pollutant in water, this kit is designed to permit students the opportunity of determining the presence of animal waste by seeing a dramatic color change that occurs in a lactose broth, students can determine if E coli are present. Grades 7-12.
Observe the effects of 3 doses of gamma irradiation on seeds and compare with control seeds. Rye grass and mung bean seeds have a short germination period, so students can see the effects within 48 hours and the experiment can be completed within 2 weeks. Kit contains enough for 30 students to work individually.
Learn concepts of air pollution and its harmful effects using one form of a common air pollutant, sulfur dioxide on experiments with plant life. This kit provides instruction, apparatus and materials to experiment with plant seedlings exposed to a sulfur dioxide atmosphere at a known concentration which produces an effect on plant life that can easily be observed within several days.
Two commonly used drugs, aspirin and antacids, will be analyzed separately. After investigating samples included in kit, students can select brands of their own choice for additional comparison. Grades 9-12.
Using comprehensive, curriculum-based investigations, your students will learn about the metric system, mass, volume, density, gravity, temperature and pH. Through these activities, the class gains a thorough understanding of how to gather information, graph and analyze data, and interpret scientific diagrams. Grades 7-10.
Your students will become junior detectives, honing their forensic skills by solving the mysteries surrounding a fictitious "crime scenario". They'll conduct a series of forensic analysis activities to determine if a crime has been committed. Each activity is centered around a particular analysis technique to include toxicology, chromatography, finger printing, document analysis and simulated blood typing.
Visualize the potential contamination of groundwater. Construct mini-groundwater simulation models showing the movement of a simulated, colored pollutant. Determine under what conditions contamination occurs from a variety of sources such as spill, farms, and buried tanks and how polluted groundwater eventually reaches the drinking water supply. In the process, students learn about the water cycle, water quality, ppm and ppb pollutant contamination, porosity of soils, and other related concepts. Grades 6-10.
Observe the use of microbes for oil degradation. Model various spill scenarios and monitor the effectiveness of the provided freeze-dried oil-degrading microbe mixture in remediating the waste. Set up a simulated oil spill in water and treat it with the special microbial product to observe the physical changes degradation of oil film over time. Additionally, they simulate three spill scenarios on beach sand, gravel and cobbles in order to observe the difference in degradation rates. The class also explores bioremediation methods for other waste chemicals and compares their effectiveness to traditional clean-up methods. Grades 7-10.
