Immersion Oil - Type A
Immersion Oil - Type A
16536

• Cargille Immersion oils meet ISO standards for performance
• Available in 1/4 oz bottles
• Types A and B are used for most fluorescent microscopy applications, type NVH.

Cargille Immersion Oil is required for high magnification and to obtain sharp images with clear resolution. These Immersion oils meet ISO standards for quality. Type A (low viscosity) and Type B (high viscosity) are used for normal microscopy applications with viscosities from 150-1250 (centistokes). The greater the gap between cover glass and objective, or condenser and slide, the more desirable high viscosity becomes. Type A and B are both used for most fluorescent microscopy applications, but Type A has a lower viscosity, which reduces any tendency to trap air causing image degradation and is easier to clean up.

These In-Street Pedestrian Crosswalk Signs provide enhanced conspicuity at un-signalized intersections in order to alert motorists to local laws concerning yielding to or stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks. The effectiveness of these pedestrian safety signs have been repeatedly supported by independent studies to demonstrate distinct changes in motorist behavior and accident incidence following installation.

Take care to avoid creating a trip hazard when using any sign in a crosswalk. Ensure that sign bases are installed outside the crosswalk area.

Inertia Demonstrator
Inertia Demonstrator
16963

This robustly constructed inertia demonstrator works reliably every time and is a great improvement on traditional versions of this classic experiment. A steel ball rests on a thin metal card on top of a pillar, and a spring-loaded catch is mounted next to the pillar. When the catch is released, a piston strikes the edge of the metal card sharply. The card flies out from under the ball, which remains in place on top of the pillar due to its large inertial mass. The card is tethered to the aluminum base for easy recovery after the experiment.

Intro to Fossils Poster
Intro to Fossils Poster
16698

36" x 24" full color laminated poster.

Fossils were a mystery for thousands of years; then a few pioneering scientists realized that they were the remains or traces of once-living organisms.
Well-known bone-type fossils are actually rocks, the result of a process called mineralization in which minerals replace decaying tissue. This process is shown and explained. All of the other fossil types are also explored.

The rarity of fossils is dramatically presented, and strange things sometimes mistaken for fossils are identified. There’s an introduction to fossil expeditions and a summary of how fossils contribute to our understanding of the earth and life on it.
There is an especially helpful section on the relationships between fossils and geology. It covers the principle of original horizontality, the law of superimposition, the principle of faunal succession, the geological time scale, index fossils, relative dating, and absolute dating.

All of this is conveyed through detailed illustrations showing the processes, excellent photographs of representative specimens, and interesting and informative captions. This poster is a great aid to museum interpretive programs and is extremely beneficial in the study of both life and earth sciences.

Intro to Minerals Poster
Intro to Minerals Poster
16699

36" x 24" full color laminated poster.
This poster begins by defining a mineral. It then expands on that by exploring atoms, molecules, and crystal structure. The various crystal structures are explained. This is followed by an excellent summary of the mineral classes.
Mineral collectors and students want to identify their specimens. However, specimens of the same mineral can vary greatly in appearance, which can make that a daunting task. Identification is based on a number of properties.
This poster provides an outstanding introduction to those properties: hardness, habit, luster, cleavage, specific gravity, color, streak, and fluorescence. Illustrations are used to explain principles. Photographs of truly outstanding specimens are used as examples.
