School Safety Patrol members are student volunteers sponsored by their schools, typically drawn from upper elementary, middle, or junior high grades. Their role is to guide students safely rather than control traffic. As leaders in traffic safety, patrollers educate their peers on safety practices and serve as role models for younger students. Key responsibilities of School Safety Patrol members include:

Undergoing comprehensive traffic safety training.

Patrol members are usually selected by teachers and principals, with parental consent. A designated teacher often acts as the patrol advisor, and local law enforcement may provide additional support.
